Privacy Policy
Last updated: 15 August 2026
GeoSongs is a music-geography guessing game. It is built to work with as little personal data as possible. This page explains what we do and don't collect. If anything here is unclear, please reach out before using the site.
What we don't do
- We do not use tracking or advertising cookies, and we do not run ads.
- We do not store your IP address, and we do not sell or share your data with advertisers.
- You do not need an account to play โ anonymous play is the default.
Anonymous device ID
To let you play, save playlists, and take the Daily Challenge without signing in, we store a random identifier in your browser's localStorage. It is a random UUID โ not tied to your name, email, or IP โ and it stays on your device. Clearing your browser storage removes it (and the local state attached to it).
Usage analytics
We record basic, privacy-preserving usage so we can understand how the game is used and where players are (roughly). For each page view we log the page path, a coarse country/region derived from network request headers (never a precise location or city), and the anonymous device ID above. We do not log your IP address and we do not set analytics cookies. This data is used only in aggregate.
Optional Google sign-in
Signing in is optional and only needed if you want to export a playlist to YouTube. If you choose to sign in with Google, we request the permission needed to create a playlist in your YouTube account and store a session so the export works. We do not read your other Google data. You can revoke this access at any time in your Google account permissions.
Third-party content
Song previews play through embedded YouTube players, and album artwork is served from the music sources' own servers. When a preview loads, YouTube may set its own cookies and receive your request under Google's privacy policy. That interaction is governed by YouTube, not GeoSongs.
Data we keep
Game rounds, scores, saved playlists, and Daily Challenge attempts are stored against your anonymous device ID (and, if you sign in, your account) so the game works across sessions. There is no profile, no contact info, and nothing we'd use to identify you personally.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update the date above. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated policy.
